The route

  • See "http://www.efgh.com/bike/rmbay.htm" for a map of the route with detailed pictures.
  • Next to SeaWorld is Mission Bay, a green park with a 4-mile, shared pedestrian/bike path that has a speed limit of 15 mph. For more advanced cyclists, there is a class 3 route on Mission Bay. At the end of the bike path is Fiesta Island. A ride around the Island adds about 5 miles to the trip if you take the long route and adds 2 miles if you take the short route. After Fiesta Island, head back to your car to complete the route.
  • To add an additional 11 miles to your trip, continue along the asphalt bike path. Pass SeaWorld Drive, you'll take a right onto a road next to the river. Follow this road west under 2 bridges. Caution: Automobiles are allowed on part of this path. Take a right onto Quivira Rd. and go around hospitality point and the jetty. Continue on Quivira Rd. a short distance and you will see a bike path to the right, take it across the San Diego River on the Sunset Cliffs Bridge, which has separate lanes for automobiles, bicycles and pedestrians. After the river, turn right and ride west along the San Diego River to Dog Beach. Return by the same route. Take a right onto a street with no name. Take a left onto West Mission Bay Dr. and a left onto Mariner's Way. Go right and then left and take the path that parallels the bayshore. Take a left onto a path around Mission Point. Take a left onto a road. cross the south end of Mission Blvd. and enter the parking lot. Take a right onto the Boardwalk. Pass Ventura Place near Hamel's bike rental. Take a right onto Santa Clara Place. *OPTIONAL: Ocean Front Walk and other bike paths continue along the shore as far north as far as Crystal Dr. in Pacific Beach. *Cross Mission Blvd. DON'T turn left into the alley marked Bayside Lane. Take a left onto the Bayside Walk path which leads into a parking lot. Take a right when leaving the lot followed by a right on Crown Point Dr. and another on Pacific Beach Dr. At the intersection with Olney Street, continue straight, riding past Campland on the Bay, and take the bicycle path over the Mike Gotch Memorial Bridge to North Mission Bay Drive. From here, you can connect on the left with the Rose Creek Bicycle Path or continue straight along Mission Bay Drive around Mission Bay.
